Q: "If I need help, how can I get support?"
You can send email 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A company representative will respond as quickly as possible. Please include your system specifications and a phone number along with your question. For best service please include: OS, hardware, software, product, problem to: support@digital-preserves.com9AM - 6PM EST Mon-Fri Toll-Free 1-877-526-6049 (U.S.) 770-985-4551 Q: "Which editing systems are these animations compatible with?"Works on all computer- based video editing systems able to read and import QuickTime or AVI files. Keyable animations such as Lower Thirds, Overlays and Design Elements contain alpha channels. For DVD packs you must have a local DVD-ROM. QuickTime 6 or greater recommended. Directly importable into After Effects, Motion or similar compositing software. Check our Compatibility Chart to see if our animations will work with your editing software. Q: "What are the DVD Packs Technical Specifications?"DVD packs delivered on multiple DVD-ROM discs. Source files are lossless QuickTime or AVI movies depending on which format is ordered. Frame size 720x480 pixels, 29.97 fps for DV and 1029X1080p, 29.97 fps for HD, 720X576 25 fps PAL. Design Elements, Lower Thirds and Overlays contain alpha channel 32-bit file (RGBA). Q: "What are the download Technical Specifications?"
Download files range between 50MB - 500MB depending on what has been ordered. WE RECOMMEND A DSL INTERNET CONNECTION OF 128kbps or better. Source files are lossless QuickTime or AVI movies depending on which formats are ordered. Frame size 720x480 pixels, 29.97 fps for DV and 1920pX1080p, 29.97 fps for HD, 720X576 25 fps PAL. Design Elements, Lower Thirds and Overlays contain alpha channel 32-bit file (RGBA).
Q: "How do I install Digital Preserves in my editing system?"Import animations into your editing software. Because different editing software handles importing graphics differently, refer to your software manual.
Q: "Can I move and resize the design elements and picture frames?"Yes! That is what makes it fun! Use your effect editor to move, resize and layer these elements to make your own custom designs.
Q: "How do I seamlessly loop the animations?" All of Digital Preserves animations may be seamlessly looped by matching the last frame of the outgoing animation clip with the first frame of the incoming animation clip to insure a clean loop with no jumps in the animation.
Q: "How do I use the transparency in Digital Preserves design elements?"Keyable animations such as design elements, lower thirds and overlays, wipes, reveals, and title wipes contain pre-multiplied alpha channels to allow you to key over another source.
Q: "How do Alpha Channels work?"An alpha channel is simply a way to use variable transparency with an image. Instead of storing three bytes for every pixel (red, green and blue), files containing alpha information store four bytes per pixel: red, green, blue and alpha, or RGBA. Variable transparency allows you to create visual effects that look good on any background. Another benefit is the use of alpha blending, which allows the use of anti-aliasing to make rounded and curved images that look good against any background. Regarding color depth, it is always necessary to use 32-bit color depth (sometimes called "Millions of Colors") to have alpha channel support in your video or graphics. Without 32-bit color depth, which is only available in a small number of codecs, files will not support alpha information. If you select a codec that does not list "Millions of Colors" as one of its color depth options, then you will not get 32-bit color depth using that codec. Q: "Why is the transparency not working?"
There could be several reasons why the transparency may not be working in your editing software (1) Your software may not recognize alpha channels (2) Your editing software may only contain one video track (3) the animation is not rendered correctly.
Q: "Why do transparent animations look terrible in QuickTime Player?" Overlay animations with a transparent background look terrible in a QuickTime or Windows Movie Player because the alpha channel is not applied correctly. The animation will look beautiful once it is imported into your editing software, the alpha channel is applied and rendered correctly.
Q: "How do I use the transparency animations in Adobe Premiere 6.5?" Premiere 6.5 does not automatically detect the alpha channel. To get Premiere 6.5 to dtetct the alpha channel place the overlay file in the timeline, right click it to select video options > Transparency, change the Key Type to Alpha Channel.
Q: "How do I use the transparency animations in AVID?" When importing the animation into the AVID software choose "Invert Existing Alpha" under Alpha settings.
Q: "How do I use the transparency animations in VEGAS?" Drop the Overlay on the track above your video. Right click the Overlay and select Properties. From the alpha channel drop down (on the Media Tab) choose straight (unmatted).
Q: "How do I use the Butterfly Transitions and Matte?" The full screen Butterfly Fly By animations come with a black and white soft wipe matte (located on DVD1). The matte is the same duration as the butterfly and transitions video sources as the butterfly flies across the screen. Aligning the matte with the butterfly animation and adding a matte key effect provides a nice transition and matches the speed of the Butterfly Fly By.
